Culmina Winery
“Winemaking at Culmina is a creative pursuit driven by the passion and expertise of our Vignerons.”
The Beginning
Latin for “peak”, Culmina was was started in 2007 by Don and Elaine Triggs and later joined by their daughter in 2012. They have put a lifetime of efforts into the industry and the name, Culmina, represents that and their desire to coax the highest quality grapes from their land. The winery is sprawled across a Golden Mile Bench terroir.
The Wines:
Culmina is lucky to have the opportunity to work with exceptionally talented Viticulture and Oenology professionals. All hailing from France, Jean-Marc, Alain, and Pascal offer a wealth of industry experience from both Canada and abroad. Their educational and training background encompass both winemaking and grape growing disciplines, giving them perspective on the entire wine production process, from vineyard to grape to bottle. Their winemaking is grounded in both scientific tenets, and a desire to make iconic quality wines that reflect the uniqueness of their terroir. Their philosophy revolves around two principles: gentle handling of fruit and minimal intervention of wine. These principles inform every decision, from the design of the state-of-the-art winery, to the determination of picking dates, and to the choice of equipment used at every stage in the process. The wines include: Saignée, Decora (Riesling), Unicus (Grüner Veltliner), Thesis, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Visit:
Upon re-opening over Easter Weekend in 2019 (Make note of when you are posting this blog and then indicate if it is open or when it does), visitors will once again be able to explore Culmina’s carefully crafted wines, including new releases of Unicus (Grüner Veltliner), Decora (Riesling), Hypothesis, Culmina’s flagship Bordeaux-style red blend.
