We've Got the Whole (Organic & Sustainable) World in Our Hands
Here at OWI we believe in Earth Day, Earth Week, Earth Month. Basically, we believe in the Planet. All wineries at OWI love and care for the Earth -- being in this industry connects us to it every day, closer and more intimate than most get in a month or even a year. To celebrate our planet, we have have selected a few of our wineries that have been recognized for their organic, biodynamic and sustainable ways.
Home to Haywire, Narrative and Free Form wines, Okanagan Crush pad is home to Canada’s first purpose-built custom crush facility.
After David Scholefield got Christine Coletta and Steve Lornie on board to plant a small vineyard in Summerland in 2005, Okanagan Crush Pad was born. The ranch is also home to 8 acres of organic field crops and a herd of sheep, guarded by two lovely Great Pyrenees dogs.
“Okanagan Crush Pad was founded on a long history of friendship, a mutual respect for land and wines that articulate “place”, a love of music and admiration for one-another’s accomplishments. When friends come together in this fashion, wine flows naturally and easily.”
Extraordinary Organic Wine
One of the original organic wineries in Kelowna since 1986 when the Cipes family took over. They believe that letting the grape grow naturally and without any harmful chemicals and pesticides allow the vineyards to “honestly express their surroundings”.
“Summerhill is committed to producing 100% organic wine, and has received Demeter Biodynamic certification for our Kelowna vineyard in 2012. Certified organic status was achieved in our cellar in 2007, allowing us to display the Canadian certified organic logo on our bottles, ensuring that a level of quality and purity can be expected by the consumer.”
Painted Rock Winery is all about sustainability and the E’s that go along with it — environmental impact, economic development an social equity.
“As a family business we are constantly evolving. With that, we are always looking for ways to increase our sustainability through the principles of the “three E’s” or pillars of sustainability - environmental impact, economic development and social equity. Our move towards sustainability includes making environmentally sound vineyard choices in conjunction with creating a viable generational business that is actively engaged in the community.”
We are so proud at OWI to be a part of these amazing wineries and vineyards. Not only are they earth friendly, their wines are award-winning. Visit their websites (links provided above) to order wines, plan a visit or keep reading about these rockstar wineries.
